A status update for everyone, the Dot update is in progress. Both myself and the other person working on it have been pretty bogged down by school, but some of the final pieces are coming together.
It isn't often that I come across something as cool as this. It's something that's simple, but really amazing. First, watch the video, then read the details.
These are the kinds of things that we should be aspiring to. Being on Linux (mostly), we can throw open the doors to make improvements. Maybe KDE should have a goal of a fully composited a usable desktop in ten seconds.
So I'm on twitter now. My wonderful twitter page is somewhat blank right now, but will be full of useful things in the future. Also, I want to follow any KDE and Drupal people on twitter. Put usernames or links in the comments so that I can follow you!
Warning: This is not a KDE related post in any way.
Update: Doh! Totally messed up the link. Should be fixed now.
This post is my triumphant return first to getting another blog post up (though the hiatus was not that long) and more importantly for the triumphant return of #kde-www. So listen closely yee wayfarer of the interwebs for this journey will be long an perilous (not really).
Interestingly enough it seems that there is actually an IRC channel for kde websites, it just isn't populated by anyone. Now, I'm not the overarching authority on all things KDE on the web. But I would really like to see people in #kde-www on irc.freenode.net.
So other than Plasma panel auto-hiding (it's a bit of a mouthful, maybe the guys in kde-promo can come up with a good buzzword ;), Amarok 2.0 beta 1, and fanciness with QEdje; the new (not really new, but new for me) hotness of the week is Subversion Externals.
Update:
This is being retracted. In the future it would be good (and highly appreciated) if anyone from NVIDIA could take a few minutes to ping the kde-devel mailing list or something similar with links to pertinent posts on the nvnews forums when fixes are in the pipeline. Again, the effort to fix things up to now is appreciated.
It's interesting to see today that the issue of Linux versus GNU/Linux is still coming up. And indeed it's still strange to see that some consider Linux not to be an operating system, just a kernel. And after all GNU and the Free Software Foundation are the principal developers of the system.
I have previously mentioned some of the reasons why I chose Drupal for dot.kde.org. However, there is one very important reason which I failed to mention, strong support for translation and localization.
