Bring back #kde-www

Interestingly enough it seems that there is actually an IRC channel for kde websites, it just isn't populated by anyone. Now, I'm not the overarching authority on all things KDE on the web. But I would really like to see people in #kde-www on irc.freenode.net.

Subversion Externals, The Hotness of the Week

So other than Plasma panel auto-hiding (it's a bit of a mouthful, maybe the guys in kde-promo can come up with a good buzzword ;), Amarok 2.0 beta 1, and fanciness with QEdje; the new (not really new, but new for me) hotness of the week is Subversion Externals.

NVIDIA Linux Drivers, finding a solution

Update:
This is being retracted. In the future it would be good (and highly appreciated) if anyone from NVIDIA could take a few minutes to ping the kde-devel mailing list or something similar with links to pertinent posts on the nvnews forums when fixes are in the pipeline. Again, the effort to fix things up to now is appreciated.

GNU/Linux, what is there in a name?

It's interesting to see today that the issue of Linux versus GNU/Linux is still coming up. And indeed it's still strange to see that some consider Linux not to be an operating system, just a kernel. And after all GNU and the Free Software Foundation are the principal developers of the system.

Babel

I have previously mentioned some of the reasons why I chose Drupal for dot.kde.org. However, there is one very important reason which I failed to mention, strong support for translation and localization.

Jabber Server?

As part of a server upgrade I spent most of yesterday moving servers to a new rack at the Minnesota Daily. However, after the dust settled our jabber server (jabberd2) decided it no longer wanted to authenticate users. I must admit that I'm getting very tired of dealing with this server. It's bad to say the least. Poor documentation, strange configuration and other fun things.

Drupal, KDE and You

Work continues on the Dot update. We're in the middle boring stages now, plenty going on, but there isn't really anything interesting to talk about on that front. There will be soon, and I appreciate everyone's patience. But I wanted to take some time to talk about something relatively important. Why did I choose Drupal for the Dot?

Drupal Daze

I'm currently attending Twin Cities Drupal Daze. I participated on a Panel yesterday and talked about the redesign for the Minnesota Daily. I'll also be giving a presentation about Drupal 7 later.

In other news, we are coming very close to having a final design mockup completed for dot.kde.org and most of the programming has been completed. I will have an update with this, and some more of my plans for the future with this.

Comment Moderation, First Source Release

Although I've been toiling away at numerous things related to dot.kde.org I haven't been able to show too much of it yet and I figured I could do a little something.

Calling all artists and graphic designers!

To all of the artists and graphic designers out there, I need your help! I am sure that many people aside from me have looked at dot.kde.org and cringed, it looks like the site is ancient. While I'm a solid programmer, my graphic design skills are not as hot. Which means that we need you!
